WordBlock Live Play is a free online Boggle-style word game where players around the world race to find words in the same letter grid at the same time. A new board is dealt every two and a half minutes. There is nothing to download and no sign-up: open the page and you are in the next round.
Each round lasts 90 seconds. When the timer ends, everyone sees the results for 60 seconds: the final leaderboard, your rank, and every word that was hiding in the grid, including the ones you missed. Then a fresh grid is dealt and the next round begins.
There are two live rooms with no player limit. Classic is the traditional 4×4 board, and Big Board is a 5×5 grid with more letters and more long words. Both rooms accept words of three letters or more.
Link neighbouring letters to spell words. Letters can connect horizontally, vertically or diagonally, and each tile can be used only once per word. On a phone or tablet, drag your finger across the tiles. On a computer, you can drag with the mouse or just type the word and press Enter.
Every word is checked instantly against the dictionary, so there is no arguing over whether a word counts. The same word only scores once for you, but other players can find it too.
Longer words are worth more points:
| Word length | Points |
|---|---|
| 3 letters | 1 |
| 4 letters | 2 |
| 5 letters | 3 |
| 6 letters | 4 |
| 7 letters | 5 |
| 8+ letters | length − 2 |
In a 90-second round, speed beats patience: a steady stream of four- and five-letter words usually outscores one long hunt. For more ideas, read patterns and word endings to spot faster and how to get better at Boggle.
