WordBlock now remembers how much you have played
Every round you play, every word you find, every daily challenge you complete — from today, all of it counts toward your player level. WordBlock now has a full XP and progression system, and alongside it comes the first wave of cosmetic unlocks: avatar borders and in-game emotes that let you show off your playstyle.
If you have been looking for a reason to keep a streak going or a goal to work toward between daily puzzles, this update gives you one. Here is exactly how everything works.
How the XP and level system works
You earn XP for every round you complete. Finding words, finishing a daily challenge, and competing in live rounds all contribute to your total. Your level is derived from your cumulative XP — it never resets, so every session adds to a permanent running total.
Each level requires progressively more XP to reach. Early levels come quickly and are designed to give new players a fast sense of momentum. Higher levels take longer, which means reaching level 30 or 50 is a genuine badge of dedication rather than something you stumble into after a few sessions.
Your current level and XP progress are displayed on your profile. In live rounds, your level is visible to other players, so your progression becomes part of how you present yourself in the game.
Avatar borders: the first cosmetic unlock
Every player already has an avatar. Now those avatars can be framed. Avatar borders are decorative rings that appear around your avatar in the player list, on the podium, and in results screens — anywhere your avatar is shown to other players.
Borders come in four rarities: Common, Rare, Epic, and Legendary. Common borders are unlocked at lower levels and cover solid colour styles — Crimson, Tangerine, Sunburst, Emerald, Ocean, Amethyst, and more. Higher rarities bring animated effects: Rainbow Pulse, Fire Ring, Frost Aura, Lightning, and the two prestige borders — Daily Aurora and Daily Galaxy — which are reserved for players who put in serious time on the daily challenge.
Once a border is unlocked you can equip it from your profile at any time, or go back to no border if you prefer a clean look. There is no pressure to use one.
Emotes: reactions mid-round
The second category of cosmetic is emotes — quick reactions you can send during a live round. They appear briefly next to your avatar in the player list, so other players can see them in real time without the game being interrupted.
The current emote set includes nine expressions: Smile, Clap, Fire, Think, Crown, Star, 100, Mind Blown, and Gem. Like borders, emotes are unlocked through progression and equipped from your profile before a round starts.
Emotes were designed specifically for the live format. A well-timed Crown after finding a long word, or a Think when you are clearly struggling, adds a small layer of personality to what can otherwise feel like a silent competition.
Why this matters if you already play boggle online
For players who already enjoy boggle online in the live mode, the progression update does not change how the game plays — the grids, the rules, and the scoring are exactly the same. What it adds is a reason to keep playing beyond the next round. Your level climbs, new borders unlock, and over time your profile starts to reflect the hours you have genuinely put in.
If you have not tried the live mode yet, it is worth knowing that it is free to play — no account required to jump in. You can [play a round right now](/live) and your XP will be waiting when you create an account afterward. Nothing is wasted.
What is coming next
This first progression update is the foundation. The XP system, border framework, and emote system are all built to be extended. Expect more border designs, additional emote sets, and eventually progression milestones tied to specific challenges rather than just raw playtime.
If there are cosmetic types or unlock conditions you would like to see, the feedback link in the app goes directly to the team. The roadmap for this system is shaped heavily by what players actually ask for.

The fastest way to make these tips stick is to use them on a live board while they are still fresh.
Start Earning XPQuick FAQ
Do I need an account to earn XP?
You can play without an account, but XP and cosmetic unlocks are only saved if you are signed in. Guest play counts toward XP during the session, and that XP is preserved if you create an account before leaving.
How do I equip a border or emote?
Visit your profile page. Unlocked borders and emotes appear in the cosmetics section. Tap or click one to equip it — changes take effect immediately in your next round.
Can I lose a border once I unlock it?
No. Once a cosmetic is unlocked it is permanently available in your profile. You can switch freely between equipped borders at any time.
Does level affect gameplay or just cosmetics?
Level affects cosmetic unlocks only — it does not change word scoring, grid difficulty, or any competitive mechanic. Every player competes on an identical grid regardless of level.
